More alike than different - part 2

In yesterday's post I already mentioned the slogan "We're more alike than different".

Here is another example:

Our youngest daughter really admires her big sisters.
Whatever they are doing is SO interesting to her.

She used to be content just watching them.

But lately, she wants to be in on the action.

Here they were playing with little laptops.

Our youngest (on the right) wants to have her share...

Fortunately, her big sister is more than willing to help her and thinks it's funny how her little sis wants to play with her.

And this is so funny to me:

Big sis decides to get ANOTHER laptop, so that they can all have their own.
And suddenly, our youngest turns her attention to the newly arrived laptop.
Of course, MUCH more interesting than the one she is playing with.

This little series of pictures cracks me up:
See the possessive little hand on the laptop next to her,
she completely forgot about the one that she was playing with,
now laying unused in front of her...

And, what I think is really sweet, is how big sis willingly lets her play with it (see that last picture).

Anyway, does this look familiar?
Wanting to play with your big siblings and THEIR stuff?

As I mentioned: Yes, they are more alike than different...

Still blogging for the "31-for-21" challenge to raise awareness for Down syndrome.

More alike than different

"We're more alike than different"
That's the slogan of this campaign.

We have found this to be true a lot already!

Sometimes our little girl is up to mischief, just like her big sisters when they were her age.

One of her favorite things to do is to pull out the basket with her sisters' books.
She has a lot of books of her own, but she prefers books that can be ripped, rather than good old board books.
See for yourself in the pictures below...

Busted!

But mom, I really don't know what happened!

So you want me to read a board book...

These pages are WAY too sturdy!

Bye bye board book!

Let's see what we've got here...

Yes, this is a good one! I know my sisters like this one, too...

And I know you can't resist this smile anyway...

Orange and teal fall decor - quick decorating

I thought it was time to do some fall decorating.

I didn't feel like removing everything else, so I decided just to use the bird decor that was already out, and combine it with some fall stuff. Lazy decorating, but I was surprised how much I liked the color combination teal and orange!

Another small change I made to our existing decor:
Normally this teal window frame has a red and green wreath attached to it.

To make it a little more 'fall-ish', I wrapped an orange berry garland around it.

An instant fall wreath...

Outside, I kept things simple, too.

This window frame is SO versatile.
Whatever the season, it's so fun to decorate it!
I just put a fall leaf garland in it, added some mini pumpkins, and it was done!

Some more decorations,
and we're ready for fall!

Happy fall!

I am blogging every day this month, since I am taking part in the "31-for-21" challenge:
blogging every day of the month to raise awareness for Down syndrome.
Some days I write about my youngest girl, who has Down syndrome, or about Down syndrome in general, other days I write about other stuff. If you want to read more about my little girl, or Down syndrome, please click the tab "Down syndrome" on the top of this page.
Today is day 20 of the challenge!

Sandal gap

"Sandal gap deformity involves medial displacement of the great toe,
giving rise to a greater than normal space between the first and second toes"

I read somewhere that about 45% of babies with Down syndrome have a so-called sandal gap:
some extra space between the first and second toes.

In the picture above, you see my daughter's toes.
She has a small sandal gap.

In this picture, you see someone next to her with a much bigger sandal gap.

That's me...

I find it sort of funny that I, with one chromosome less than my daughter, have a much more present sandal gap.
Yes, they do happen in other people, too...

And, can you believe I hate to wear flip-flops?
Can't stand the feeling!
Sad, isn't it, while my feet are built for them?
Maybe my little girl will use her sandal gap better ;)

Buddy Walk 2012

This month we took part in our local Buddy Walk.

"The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society
to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October
and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

Since 1995, the Buddy Walk® has become the premier advocacy event for Down syndrome in the United States.
It is also the world's most widely recognized public awareness program for the Down syndrome community."

There are over 250 Buddy Walks held in October 2012!

Our little girl was a little shy at first:
so many people, so much attention...

But it didn't take long till she started to enjoy it all!

We had a great group of family and friends with us!
Thanks so much everyone!

If someone would have told me in December 2010,
just after receiving the diagnosis,
that we would be out there celebrating that extra chromosome,
I would have had a hard time believing it.

But we did and do celebrate our little girl, and wouldn't change a thing about her!

If you're interested in taking part in a Buddy walk,
go to the National Down Syndrome Society website for information about both national and international Buddy walks.
