Buddy Walk 2012

This month we took part in our local Buddy Walk.

"The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society
to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October
and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

Since 1995, the Buddy Walk® has become the premier advocacy event for Down syndrome in the United States.
It is also the world's most widely recognized public awareness program for the Down syndrome community."

There are over 250 Buddy Walks held in October 2012!

Our little girl was a little shy at first:
so many people, so much attention...

But it didn't take long till she started to enjoy it all!

We had a great group of family and friends with us!
Thanks so much everyone!

If someone would have told me in December 2010,
just after receiving the diagnosis,
that we would be out there celebrating that extra chromosome,
I would have had a hard time believing it.

But we did and do celebrate our little girl, and wouldn't change a thing about her!

If you're interested in taking part in a Buddy walk,
go to the National Down Syndrome Society website for information about both national and international Buddy walks.

Hello! I found your blog via something that was on Pinterest, and I was so glad to see how you are raising awareness of Down Syndrome. My husband and I recently adopted our 2nd daughter, from Armenia, and we chose her because she has Down Syndrome. Even though I'm a social worker and have worked with a variety of people, being a mom to a little girl with Down Syndrome has taught me so much and dispelled preconceived ideas about DS. What a joy she brings to our family and our life and it's so true that celebrating the small steps that she takes makes us so proud! Way to go Mariska... and I love the crafts too! I'm crafty and love to see what others out there are creating! God bless you! Kristen
