Freezer paper stenciling - my first attempt

I had heard a lot about freezer paper stenciling,
but I had never tried it.

It sounded simple enough,
but somehow it seemed intimidating.

Also, I didn't really feel like buying a ton of different paint colors.

Well, that problem was solved when I found this:

A medium that you mix in with regular craft paint.
Since I did have lots of craft paint, I thought it was worth a try.

I needed tiny bits of paint, so I just used a teaspoon,
and for each color I used 1 teaspoon of paint, and 1/2 teaspoon of medium.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut a text out of freezer paper,
and ironed it onto the shirt.

I also typed the text in Word,
to see what it would look like on the shirt,
since I wanted to use more than one color.

Starting with the lightest colors, I started stenciling.

I was SO curious if it worked!

There it is!

I could have been a little more careful,
I got a little bit of a different color paint on a couple letters, since I used a thick foam brush.
Makes it look sort of authentic, right?! Over all, I'm happy with the result!

On the bottle it says you need to let it dry for a week so that it is washable.

And here is my sweet little model again :)

I really like how cheap and simple this is!
I hope the colors won't run when I wash it, I will update this post once I got it washed :)

EDIT: I washed it, and it came out looking just the same.
So I consider this a success :)
I washed it on the delicate cycle, cold.

This month I am taking part in the "31-for-21" challenge to raise awareness for Down syndrome,
by blogging every day of the month. This is day 15, which means we're pretty much halfway! That also explains the t-shirt I made for her...

The shirt and your daughter are adorable! I've done lots of freezer paper stenciling, but I didn't know about the textile medium and have just used regular craft paint successfully with out it. I'll have to give it a try. If you're interested in more freezer paper stencil patterns, I have several cute ones on my blog. http://helpinglittlehands.blogspot.com/p/hand-me-down-rehab.html

Found you through Sugar Bee Crafts and I'm a new follower. :)

I just must tell you again how ADORABLE she is! I just love seeing her big smile! Also, if you iron your paint to heat set it, it won't fade much at all. I make LOTS of the kids' shirts this way!! You also have to try Heat Transfer vinyl sometime... SO easy with the cameo!!
